The aromatic infrared bands (AIBs), emission features observed ubiquitously across a wide variety of interstellar objects, are commonly attributed to radiative cooling of highly-excited ground-state vibrational levels of polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) that are populated after UV absorption and internal conversion.
